Basic Bio Stuff

I’m the author of a lot of books, including near future thrillers, science fiction, and fantasy. I’m also a dancer, vocalist, and especially a teacher. You can find lists of my books and more at my Wikipedia page Catherine_Asaro. I  drink a lot of coffee, in particular the latte from Mad City Coffee in Columbia, Maryland, a drink which truly speaks of humanity’s ability to become civilizedI have the distinction of managing to spill coffee in every room of my house, which amuses my daughter’s cat no end.

I’m married to the proverbial NASA rocket scientist, except that he actually does nothing with rockets. He’s a theoretical astrophysicist. I like math. A lot. My daughter also likes math, and is much better at it than me (she has degrees from various fancy places in the subject). She is also a much better dancer than I ever was, having performed with the Washington Ballet in DC and the Ballet Theatre of Maryland. I teach math, physics, chemistry, dance, and writing. Sometimes I like to sing.  But most of all, I like to write.

  1. I am very excited to have downloaded on kindle Lighting Strikes. Catch the Lighting was the first book I read by you and one of my favorites. Just want to thank you again for coming to Continunity Con in Birmingham Alabama all those years ago. I had a blast being a guest liaison to you and it was fun arranging a special ballet performance with Rio Barlow and her students. I am in Emmitsburg Maryland taking classes for a few weeks. Your state is so pretty this time of year.

    All my best,

    Florence B.

    • FLorence, thank you! I’ve always had such good memories of Continuity con and meeting you. Thanks for coming by and saying hello.

  2. Dear Ms. Asaro: I coordinate the Chicago Area Mensa book discussion group Futures and Fantasies. We will be discussing your Undercity on 9-11-16 and I am thinking of sending much of the Wikipedia article on the Skolian Imperialate to the 40+ people on FNF email list, so that we all will have background for the novel. Can you suggest any additional information it would be appropriate to send? Sincerely, Stephen Metzger

  3. I have been unable to find and buy Book 2 of Lightning Strike on Amazon.com in a Kindle (or any other) edition. I read and still have the first 3 books in paperback when they came out, after that I started ordering in advance your books in hard cover when each one came out at my local book store. I wanted to see how you changed and updated Catch the Lightning to fit with the other later Skolian Empire Books. I did get Book 1 of the Kindle edition well over a year ago.
